Author and former constable Paul Durston creates a disturbing look at what can go wrong when an officers mind snaps in his new novel, “In the View of a Constable.”
Mr Durston spent 15 years as a street cop and 15 years in a desk position helping to organize the force and had seen plenty dark effects from this work on his fellow officers.
The View of a Constable follows one officer whose investigations bring his childhood traumas to the surface. As he gets deeper into the case he begins to become aware of his own schizophrenia and the possibility that he may be more involved in the crime than he anticipated.
There are so many shows and books that concentrate on giving the inside scoop of investigation or analysis techniques, but Durston said, “I want people to see an insider’s perspective of what this kind of work can do to an officer’s mind.”
