 Report from Zivver finds overall trust in email security across local and central government but there are concerns about breaches due to human error and lack of interoperability

Zivver has today released its Public Sector Freedom to Focus report, which explores the importance of data protection and technological interoperability in local and central government.

The report found that 98% of local and central government employees rely on email to get the job done because it is universal and requires little training and implementation. However, IT leaders are all too familiar with the security flaws, with 45% of those surveyed concerned about data loss through email errors. This is supported by findings from the ICO, which showed that, of the incidents reported by government bodies, the majority were due to human error. Despite all this, 91% of those questioned consider email to be the most secure method of communication.

Up until last Thursday, OpenAI’s ChatGPT held the record for the fastest stratospheric platform growth ever, reaching 10 million people in a mere five weeks. However, after Meta launched Threads on July 6th, the Threads app eclipsed ChatGPT’s record in just seven hours. Within 24 hours, 30 million people signed up for Threads. By the end of the weekend, 100 million registered users were exchanging messages on the platform. Given that Threads hasn’t yet launched in the EU due to privacy regulations, the level of platform growth is noteworthy.

A minehunting ‘mothership’ and autonomous vessels were trialled together for the first time in a milestone moment for the future of the UK’s mine counter measure operations.

The three boats joined RFA Stirling Castle in Portland, Dorset, for a series of tests as the navy looks to adopt autonomous minehunting systems.

Royal Navy Motor Boats Apollo, Hydra and Hazard zipped around the water off the south coast as part of initial loading trials with the recently-purchased Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship.
