British Security Industry Association endorses the national surveillance camera strategy for England and Wales

The Surveillance Camera Commissioner, Tony Porter, recently launched a national surveillance camera strategy for England and Wales, which has been endorsed by the British Security Industry Association.

James Kelly, Chief Executive of the BSIA, comments: “The strategy is a very worthy and successful attempt to draw together the multiple stakeholders across a diverse and critically important sector. The BSIA is proud to have been a contributor to the Commissioner’s efforts at providing direction and leadership on the appropriate use of such systems to secure the protection of our communities whilst protecting individuals’ rights to privacy.

Expert comment on Orange is the New Black hack

Variety reported the upcoming fifth season of Netflix's "Orange is the New Black" was leaked due to a security breach at Netflix's post production studio. The hacker is also threatening to release new episodes of shows from Fox, ABC and other networks who use the same third party vendor, with the potential loss of millions of dollars at stake. Secure data destruction essential say BSIA members

The Data Protection Act 1998 is an Act of Parliament which controls how personal information is used by organisations, businesses or the government and is enforced by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). The ICO has been granted a number of powers to enforce the Act including non-criminal enforcement and audit, monetary penalties up to £500,000 and even criminal prosecution. In addition, businesses run the risk of significantly damaging their reputation by failing to comply with the Act.

Nigeria's Whistleblowing Policy: Urgent Case For Whistle Blowers Protection Law

It is certainly a season of mind-boggling cash hauls in Nigeria. Thanks to a Whistle Blower, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, recently unraveled a staggering $43.4 million (about N14 billion) warehoused inside the infamous ‘’Apartment 7B’’ at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos. Prior to the #IkoyiGate cash haul, the EFCC also uncovered bundles of naira notes totaling about N450 Million inside ‘Ghana-must-go’ bags at shop LS64 Legico Plaza, Nigerian Air force Camp, Victoria Island, Lagos State. A whopping $9.8 million (about N3 billion) was also recovered from the former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mr. Andrew Laah Yakubu, on February 3, 2017; while N250 million was hauled from the popular Balogun Market, also in Lagos. Not forgetting the N49 million cash that was reclaimed by the EFCC at the Kaduna Airport a while ago. The federal government also submits that $151 million (N46 billion) was seized from a fake account in an unnamed commercial bank. All in all the Nigerian government brags that thanks to the whistleblowing policy, at the conservative parallel market rate of N306 to the US dollar, the least value of the humongous cash so far confiscated amounts to N73 billion in the last four months (December 22, 2016 to April 2017). Whistleblowing is undoubtedly the trending buzzword in Nigeria. As a matter of fact, the policy recently led to the discovery of counterfeit and unregistered products worth over N200 million in Ota, Ogun State by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
