Underestimating the value of sharing data and working on shared solutions is one of the biggest flaws a company can make today. By sharing data, companies can greatly mature their consumption and application of security intelligence as well as addressing issues appropriately and reaching sensible decisions.
OnePoll conducted as transatlantic survey of 2000 UK and US workers, on behalf Varonis Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRNS), the leading provider of software solutions for unstructured, human-generated enterprise data. The survey revealed that an alarming 37% of UK employees have never shared data. These findings raise a lot of questions and could inter-link with employee frustrations, productivity and potential security threats.
Interesting statistics include:
37% of UK and 26% of US claim they never share data with other people
47% of US workers share data externally compared to 33% of their UK counter-parts
Sharing files is an essential component for any organisations network, based on respondent feed it is apparent that:
US workers find it easier to share files from at home (34%) than at work (31%), compared to the UK who found it much less complicated to share files whilst at work (45%) than at home (28%)
Companies that have their own files servers implemented, found that their employees were more capable of sharing data internally and externally
70% of UK and 69% of US employees shared data internally when they had files servers
Without file servers 43% of UK and 52% of US employees do not share data.
Over 20% of US and UK workers do not know if their company has its own file servers
The aforementioned has resulted in a large percentage of employees not sharing data. 62% (UK) and 47% (US) who responded with ‘don’t know’ regarding file servers, do not share data
