Bracknell, UK: Webroot, a leader in delivering Internet security as a service, today announced that Webroot SecureAnywhere offerings are now listed as compatible with the Microsoft Windows 8 operating system, currently available as a release preview. Providing the fastest, least-disruptive, most-effective security, Webroot SecureAnywhere enables users who have installed the Windows 8 preview to get the most out of the “fast and fluid experience” Microsoft is promising with its completely reimagined Windows operating system.

Webroot offers a uniquely complementary security solution for Windows 8 users. Webroot SecureAnywhere scans three times faster, occupies 99 per cent less space, and uses 95 per cent less memory than the average security product, according to PassMark, an independent testing organisation.

“While there are many security solutions available today that will protect users while they are trying Microsoft’s new operating system, only Webroot SecureAnywhere will ensure that the security software doesn’t slow down the operating system or inhibit the speed at which applications open and run,” said Mike Malloy, executive vice president, Webroot Products and Strategy. “Together, Webroot SecureAnywhere and Windows 8 can deliver a revolutionary experience, protecting users and their information without asking them to sacrifice a minute of their time or have a negative effect on the device’s battery consumption.”

In a recent Anti-Virus Comparatives - Performance Test, Webroot SecureAnywhere outperformed 20 other security solutions when it came to the overall impact on system performance, earning the highest “Advanced+” three-star rating in the test. The test evaluated the impact of security suites on various activities including file copying, archiving/unarchiving, installing/uninstalling applications, launching applications, and downloading files. While the test was performed on systems running the Windows 7 operating system, the Webroot SecureAnywhere technology performs consistently in any environment given its cloud-based architecture.

Recent PassMark tests support these results, showing Webroot outperforming the major competitors in key performance metrics for both home and business solutions.* Webroot SecureAnywhere has an install size of just less than 4 MB and takes up 141 times less disk space than the leading competitor. In addition, SecureAnywhere uses 42 times less memory while the system is idle than other leading providers. With an initial scan time of less than one minute, SecureAnywhere scans three times faster than the competition and uses 19 times less memory than other leading providers.

Changing the security model with protection that suits the user: Webroot SecureAnywhere installs in six seconds and immediately scans the PC. For users who simply want their security to work for them, Webroot SecureAnywhere removes the burden by handling it automatically. For technically minded users, it features 124 settings they can customize, and advanced tools for diagnosing security problems.

Webroot SecureAnywhere enables users to manage security for all of their PCs, tablets, and mobile devices from a single web portal, with a single license. Individuals who serve as their family's "tech expert" can be given administrative privileges to monitor their family's protection via the web portal.

Virtually instant protection against new threats: Webroot SecureAnywhere is the first security solution to leverage comprehensive application behaviors to determine the categorization of all software, good and bad. All of the protection is delivered from a cloud database so users never have to bother with time-consuming signature updates. Every file that tries to run on a PC is analyzed and the data is fed into the Webroot Intelligence Network in the cloud. Within seconds, everyone around the world using Webroot SecureAnywhere is protected from the newest threats. If a computer is offline, Webroot SecureAnywhere monitors the system and if malicious activity is observed, it will take action against it automatically.
