Alexandria, Va. (Oct. 9, 2015) – ASIS International (ASIS), today announced that the American Council on Education’s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT®) has evaluated and recommended college credit for its three board certifications─Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), and Physical Security Professional (PSP). ACE, the major coordinating body for all the nation’s higher education institutions, seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives.
“This is an important milestone that effectively bridges the gap between non-traditional adult learning and a career path for those who have attained or are pursuing ASIS certifications,” said ASIS Professional Certification Board President Keith L. Kambic, CPP. “An evaluation and recommendation of ASIS exams for college credit provides a reliable and appropriate means for comparisons of competencies as they relate to respective degree programs. In addition, certificants may shorten their path to degree completion and have more opportunities for workplace advancement.”
ACE CREDIT has recommended the following guidelines for ASIS board certificants:
The CPP exam is recommended for a total of 18 semester hours in the graduate degree category as follows: 3 semester hours in global security management; 3 in risk management; 3 in threat and risk management; 3 in security principles and security theory; 3 in information security and risk management; and 3 in organizational continuity.
The PCI exam is recommended for a total 6 semester hours in the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category as follows: 3 semester hours in crime investigation or social work; 3 in information gathering and case management.
The PSP exam is recommended for a total of 9 semester hours in the upper-division baccalaureate degree category as follows: 3 semester hours in physical security systems; 3 in internship or applied learning in safety, security, or law enforcement; and 3 in risk and threat vulnerability and assessment or safety, security, and crisis administration.
