Dr Jared DeMott, security researcher at Bromium, Inc. presented new research at ShmooCon this past weekend. Jared’s research examines the struggle between attackers and vendors to find and mitigate uses of memory corruption to defeat typical security products such as anti-virus based technologies and Microsoft’s EMET. He broke-down vendors’ progress in sealing off certain types of memory attacks and details new/persistent routes - like “Use-after-Free” memory bugs - attackers use to bypass defences.
