United Airlines grounding all US flights for nearly two hours

Following the recent ‘network connectivity’ problems which caused United Airlines to ground all US flights for nearly two hours, Nimmy Reichenberg, VP of Strategy for AlgoSec comments:

“The outage shows the impact that even apparently simple network operations can have on complex systems. Without a single view of their networks, and of the interdependencies and connections that enable key applications to work smoothly, organisations can experience these problems, which can have a big impact on their reputation and bottom line.

“Our 2014 State of Network Security survey found that 80% of organisations had experienced network or application outages as a result of unplanned changes. It’s therefore critical to be able to proactively assess the impact of network changes before deployment to minimise the risk of such outages.”
