With mobile commerce expected to hit £100 billion next year, the mobile app landscape has never been more lucrative—or more dangerous. Appdome, a leader in mobile app defense, is about to release its UK consumer survey, revealing that nearly half (41%) of the UK has fallen victim to mobile cybercrime. As apps become the go-to for transactions, the pressure on cyber security, tech teams and developers to prioritise security is skyrocketing.

Key findings include:

  • Explosive rise in mobile app usage: 56% of UK consumers now prefer mobile apps over other channels, a 14% jump since 2022.
  • Trust hangs by a thread: 71% would abandon a brand after a breach—creating significant business risk for companies.
  • Brits lead the world in fear of romance scams—31% are on high alert, a staggering 17% more than the global average.
  • Security is a top priority: 85% of UK consumers say security and privacy are as important as any app features
  • Fraud fears grow: Mobile fraud is the UK’s top concern, with 62% of consumers citing it as their biggest worry, 59% also worried about social engineering scams—a growing threat to the UK’s digital landscape.
  • Proactive measures are critical: 95% of UK consumers expect apps to protect them from fraud, and 80% demand pre-emptive anti-fraud measures from developers.
