When our Sunderland branch received a call for help from the Owen Pugh Group, who were looking for support for their Constructionarium project, the team were more than happy to help.
Established over ten years ago, Constructionarium provides a “hands-on” construction experience for students and professionals; where participants construct scaled down versions of civil engineering projects from all around the world. The principle is to link academic institutes with industry and to ensure that the students are able to apply the knowledge they have gained in a practical, safe and relevant environment.
Civil engineering firm Owen Pugh have teamed up with Newcastle University, Newcastle College and TyneMet College to launch the project in the North East. The project was piloted over a five day period in June, when 24 students teamed up to construct scaled down versions of the Millennium Gallery in Sheffield at Owen Pugh’s Marsden Quarry site in South Tyneside.
Owen Pugh were in need of site accommodation at the quarry, to provide facilities for the students during the project and Mobile Mini were more than happy to offer free hire of two 32ft canteens for the week.

Jan Elliott, CSR Manager at Owen Pugh said, “Thanks all of you so much for your tremendous support – I just wanted to say that without Companies like yourselves giving something back to the Industry our young people would have little chance to experience construction for themselves. None of them will ever forget the week they spent in Marsden Quarry and I think we have forged some new friendships”.
