Mitie was recently awarded three contracts in its award-winning painting business. Combined, the three awards are valued at over £3.75m, and include a contract with the UK’s leading provider of student accommodation, Unite Students, and two social housing contracts with Derwent Living and Gloucester City Homes.
Mitie’s painting business secured a seven year, £2.5m painting contract with Derwent Living, which includes redecoration and repairs, such as internal and external cyclical decoration, pre-decoration repairs, minor roofing repairs and small works to housing stock located across the East and West Midlands.
The outsourcer was also awarded a social housing contract with Gloucester City Homes, worth £670k over one year. The contract consists of external and internal pre-paint repairs and cyclical decorations to social housing sites located across Gloucestershire.
In addition, Mitie has begun work with Unite Students, which provides a home for 41,000 students across the UK, as part of a one year, lifecycle painting and flooring contract. Mitie painters and decorators are carrying out the internal painting and decorating to a number of Unite Students’ properties across the West Country and South coast.
Mitie’s painting division is one of the largest painting contractors in the UK, with a skilled workforce of over 1,400 people, and local branches nationwide. Together, the division contributed around £72m to annual group revenues.

Also, at Lampton Academy in Hounslow recently , Ruby McGregor-Smith CBE, CEO of Mitie spoke to a hall of students about her personal career journey, at an event organised by the charity Speakers for Schools.
Her talk opened a special professional day at Lampton Academy, which involved the participation of over 20 business women across all industries, as a fun and effective way of informing and engaging with young female students, and giving them an insight into a variety of careers.
After a series of speeches and interactive Q&A sessions, small groups of year 10 students were given the chance to spend up to 15 minutes with each business professional and talk with them about their job roles and career paths.

Mitie expands hold baggage screening contract at Heathrow
In another development, Mitie has extended its partnership to provide hold baggage screening (HBS) and immigration presentation services at Heathrow terminals 1, 2, 3 and 4.
The contract is worth approximately £6m per annum, with Heathrow’s Terminal 2 being added to Mitie’s remit.
Over 300 staff will be working under Mitie’s total security management business, who was first awarded the contract for Terminal 3 in 1997. In 2011, Terminals 1 and 4 were added and a three year extension was given.
The immigration presentation services Mitie also delivers at Heathrow will contribute an additional £700k each year, and see 50 more specialist staff working on site.
