In the past, terrorists had caused maximum damage to lives and property anytime and wherever they had struck, but in the coming years, these may no longer be the case due to the many innovations coming from counter-terror companies such as Marshalls Plc, UK’s leading hard landscaping specialist which on Wednesday launched a range of PAS 68-tested, counter-terror planters as part of its RhinoGuard security range.
Vigilance learnt that the RhinoGuard planters are reinforced with a high-strength frame and have been impact-tested in accordance with BSI PAS 68. Crash tested using an un-laden 7.5 tonne N3 lorry, known as an ‘empty 18 tonner’, travelling at 50mph the frame brought the vehicle to a dead stop, immobilising it completely.
Mr Jim Skelton, Product Sector Manager told Vigilance: “Incorporating effective security measures into landscape design is essential in ensuring that the UK’s Critical National Infrastructure and crowded places are better protected from the threat of vehicle-borne terrorism. I believe Marshalls’ new counter-terror planter range demonstrates an example of our dedication to helping to protect our towns and cities from the threat of terrorism, without compromising the design of our landscapes.”
Skelton said further: “Available in a variety of materials including timber, steel and polished concrete, the new RhinoGuard Planters are able to complement any landscape through both enhancing and protecting the environment. The planters provide an attractive alternative to traditional methods of hostile vehicle mitigation sought by architects, specifiers, local authorities, and anyone else responsible for the integration of counter-terrorism security measures in the planning or design of a public landscape.”
