Government and enterprise security supplier Becrypt CEO joined panel to discuss emerging risks and new countermeasures to combat the next major threat – security risks within the supply chain.
London, UK: Dr Bernard Parsons, Becrypt CEO was invited to speak at the prestigious New York City Cyber Security Summit, held on 18 September. The Summit is aimed C-level executives responsible for protecting their companies’ critical infrastructures from cyber attack. Dr Parsons joined a debate on emerging risks and the defensive countermeasures that were available. In particular, he focussed on the security risks within supply chains and explore whether risk management practices were being effective in identifying the real business impact of a data breach.
Dr Parsons said: “We have seen an increase in regulatory scrutiny that has affected not just financial institutions, but a broad base of 3rd party suppliers. While activities can be outsourced, responsibility cannot, and security breaches within the supply chain are proving a huge risk to organisations. Simply conducting an audit to validate 3rd party security is for many proving insufficient, in light of the far reaching impact of high profile data breaches that are setting precedents for liability. As breaches become more frequent and real for most, we are seeing a shift from discussions of risk, which imply a possibility of attack, to business impact and liability that recognises their constant presence”.
The Cyber Security Summit was an exclusive C-Suite conference series that connects senior level executives with innovative solution providers and renowned information security experts. It is an educational and informational forum that focuses on educating attendees on how to best protect highly vulnerable business applications and critical infrastructure.
