Preparation in top gear for the Black Rats to leave for Afghan

Vigilance can report that the military personnel from 4th Mechanized Brigade last week showcased their capability as they prepare to deploy to Afghanistan.

An MoD spokesman said the Brigade would deploy on Operation HERRICK 17 in October for a six-month tour as the lead formation of Task Force Helmand, adding due to the significant progress in the development of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) it would be the first to oversee a drawdown of British troops from Helmand province, with the UK’s military commitment there due to be cut by 500 by the end of the year.

SecurEnvoy says Windows 7/8 password hints file exposure is another nail in the coffin for passwords

Commenting on reports that hackers can now gain ready access to the password hints file(s) on Windows 7 and the upcoming Windows 8 platform, SecurEnvoy says this is just another example of how the integrity of passwords has become seriously eroded in recent years.

Peace of mind at King’s Cross, Europe’s busiest train station after installation of NICE’s PSIM technology to improve security

King’s Cross in the Borough of Camden, London, is one of the largest and most historic rail stations in the UK. In recent years the station has also gained worldwide renown for being the fictional home of platform 9¾, which takes Harry Potter to Hogwarts. King’s Cross is run, maintained and owned by Network Rail, its 12 platforms are used by four train operators and it is the London terminal for the East Coast Mainline, which runs from the capital to north of England and Scotland. In addition, six London Underground lines all converge below ground at Kings Cross St Pancras.

New squatting law still leaves commercial properties vulnerable

Squatting is to become a criminal offence in the UK following a change in the law, which comes into force on 1^st September 2012, Vigilance can reveal.

Vigilance gathered that while this move is welcomed by the British Security Industry Association (BSIA), there are fears that the law still doesn't go far enough to protect commercial and non-residential properties.
