Geo-political conflict triggers increase in cyberattacks and the rise of ‘disruption and destruction’ malware

NEW YORK, NY: Check Point Research (CPR) has published its 2023 Security Report reflecting on a chaotic year in cybersecurity. The report looks back on a tumultuous 2022, which saw cyberattacks reach an all-time high in response to the Russo-Ukrainian war. Education and Research remains the most targeted sector, but attacks on the healthcare sector registered a 74% increase year-on-year.

Have Islamists misinterpreted the Quran?

One of the major social, cultural, and religious phenomena of modern and contemporary times is the overwhelming antipathy numerous Islamists feel towards non-Muslims, including Christians and Jews. In spite of the fact that, like Islam, religions such as Christianity and Judaism are Abrahamic religions and share much with Islam, they are nevertheless to this day considered by many Islamists to be kuffar, or infidels. Although Islam regards both Jews and Christians as ahlu al-kitab, or People of the Book, numerous Islamists still dismiss them as impure, i.e., corrupted by ungodly influences. Islamists, as well as many non-Islamist Muslims, generally claim that both Christians and Jews are not true believers because they have strayed from al-siratu almustaqeem, or the Straight Path (of righteousness). There are different reasons for this belief.

Mine-hunting ‘mother ship’ arrives in Plymouth

A specialist ship bought to support Royal Navy mine-hunting operations – a mother ship to launch drones to find and destroy undersea threats – has arrived in Plymouth.

When deployed, the platform will support the safeguarding of UK waters from the threat of mines at sea, operating a range of uncrewed systems that will help keep personnel at a safe distance.

Based at His Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde, the 96.8 metres long vessel – the length of two Olympic swimming pools – will work side-by-side with autonomous mine-hunting systems already operated by the Royal Navy out of Faslane under Project Wilton.
