London: Ipswitch has announced the results of a European online survey* to test the attitudes of IT professionals towards regulation and compliance issues for 2015. The results indicate a shocking lack of awareness and preparedness for the planned EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The regulation is due to come into effect in late 2014/early 2015 and is designed to unify and simplify data protection across 28 countries within the European Union (EU. The GDPR includes a strict data protection compliance regime with severe penalties of up to 100M EUR or up to five percent of worldwide turnover for organisations in breach of its rules.

SAN DIEGO, Calif.: Cubic Advanced Learning Solutions (CALS) has announced a partnership with Applied Research Associates (ARA) and Epic Games, Inc. as a new member in the Unreal Government Network (UGN). Cubic has licensed Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 and 4 from ARA to produce state-of-the-art training simulations using the latest gaming technology to create a more realistic training environment.

Singapore: At this year’s Mobile Pwn2Own event that took place during the Applied Security Conference (PacSec) in Tokyo, Japan, the research arm of global consultancy MWR InfoSecurity - MWR Labs - won two different categories by exclusively demonstrating security flaws in both the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Amazon Fire Phone. One team of researchers from MWR Labs in the UK exploited the Samsung Galaxy S5, enabling them to steal personal details, while another team from MWR Labs in South Africa exposed a remote code execution on the Amazon Fire Phone.
