LONDON, UK: Tripwire, Inc. has announced results of an extensive security assessment of three top-selling smart home automation hub products available on Amazon. The research uncovered zero-day flaws in each hub that could allow hackers to take control of smart home functionalities.
The news broke just a few short hours ago that mobile phone giant, Carphone Warehouse, has been victim of a data breach where hackers gained access to the bank details of 2.4 million customers. Customers with accounts at OneStopPhoneShope.com, e2save.com and mobiles.co.uk may also be affected.
Adam Winn, Senior Product Manager at OPSWAT, has examined further revelations from the Hacking Team breach, after it was revealed that the FBI were among those who purchased services and products from Hacking Team for the purpose of identifying TOR users. Using techniques such as spear phishing and drive-by-downloads, the FBI were able to gain the IP addresses of the TOR users that they required, all whilst remaining undetected by security measures.

The report notes that this next-generation attack does not require compromising the user’s cloud account username or password.
