SUNNYVALE, Calif.: An intensive study of end users’ satisfaction with their desktop experience, contrasted with IT’s perception of what constitutes a good user experience, reveals a disconnect between IT professionals and end users in the areas of security, performance, and productivity. The survey conducted by Dimensional Research for AppSense, the global leader in User Environment Management (UEM) solutions for the secure endpoint, shows that end users have high expectations for their desktops and often feel that desktop security limits their productivity.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide warns of credit card breach

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has disclosed that malware designed to help cyber thieves steal credit and debit card data was found on point-of-sale systems at some of its hotels. This announcement makes Starwood the latest in a recent string of hotel chains to acknowledge credit card breach investigations, and comes only days after the company announced its acquisition by Marriott International. Starwood published a list of more than 50 of its hotel properties that were impacted by the breach.

ESET Parental Control: Parents Can Help Their Children Explore Online Safely

LONDON – ESET has announced the global availability of its ESET Parental Control for Android app, which helps parents to protect their children when exploring the online world.

Having a tool to manage what their children do with their tablets and smartphones is important for parents. A survey commissioned by ESET showed that 88% of parents are worried about what their children can access online. In that survey, 81% of parents said that they were troubled by the idea of their child visiting inappropriate web pages; 71% mentioned their children forwarding personal details to strangers; while 61% highlighted excessive amounts of time spent on devices.
