A businesswoman with a background in close protection, and a former senior police officer, have become the two latest appointees by Home Office Ministers to the Security Industry Authority.

Kate Bright and Alec Wood began their 3-year term as Members of the Authority on Monday 03 February. Their appointments followed the public appointments process. Authority Members are non-executive directors who have responsibility, among other things, for setting the SIA’s strategic direction. With the executive directors they make up the SIA’s Board.

The Royal Navy has completed a concerted five-day operation to shadow a Russian task group as it passed the UK.

On Friday 24 January, two security guards were fined at Birmingham Magistrates' Court for offences against the Private Security Industry Act (PSIA).

Dudley security boss Tammy Sharman and security guard Gregory Clarke pleaded guilty to the offences following an investigation by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). Sharman, the operator of Black Country Security Services, provided the services of an unlicensed security guard - Gregory Clarke - to a Solihull hotel on 01 June 2019.
