Reminiscent of the sudden speed with which the so-called Arab Spring uprisings popped up and spread out of nowhere in 2010-2011, Hay’at Tahrir Ash-Sham (The Levant Liberation Organization), or HTS, seemingly sprang out of nowhere and succeeded in overthrowing the 53-year-old Assad regime within two weeks. One is inclined to think that this episode will not likely fare any better than the failed “Arab Spring”.

As widespread adoption of AI continues to grow in 2025, we can expect to see an increase in privacy and security incidents that are attributable to misconfigured and misunderstood systems.

In a sprint to use AI systems and gain an edge over competitors, organizations will unintentionally open themselves to security incidents and create privacy incidents. Several factors will contribute to these events, including misconfiguration of AI systems and misunderstanding of their actual impact and sensitivity. In addition, we will increasingly see general issues stemming from AI Exceptionalism, such as overestimating AI’s capabilities and failure to fully accept or address its limitations.

Sailors from Royal Navy destroyer HMS Duncan have been reunited with loved ones for Christmas after returning to Portsmouth following an Eastern Mediterranean mission.

The ship sailed just over six months ago from UK shores to replace HMS Diamond in the Red Sea to join the multinational effort keeping trade flowing amid ongoing attacks by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.

However, Duncan was ordered to stay in the Eastern Mediterranean as regional tensions grew due to the Israel-Hamas and Israel-Hezbollah conflicts.
