Reports that the Web site of a New York-based tour firm has been hacked and around 110,000 bank card details lifted by hackers may have repercussions for the company on the PCI DSS front, says Imperva.
New research just published by G4S Secure Solutions (UK) (‘G4S’), the UK’s leading security company, reveals that one-in-seven (14%) people would consider stealing from a retailer this December. Meanwhile, over 1.1 million people would consider stealing a Christmas present for a friend or family member, an increase of 50% over 2009.
Hacktivism is the use of cyber attacks and sabotage to communicate politically motivated causes; it is as old as the internet. Sole hacktivists have always acted in an individual manner to demonstrate their protest using various attack methods. One popular attack has been, and continues to be, the defacement of websites- Microsoft’s website, for example, was displaced with a Saudi Arabian flag.
Imperva’s, the web security specialist, Hacker Intelligence Initiative(HII), has been closely tracking the Anonymous Hacker Group and its attacks against various Web sites, Imperva have found that the tool to initiate a denial of service attack has been downloaded over 40,000 times with the majority of downloads occurring in the US.
