The United States strongly condemns the terrorist attack on United Nations offices in Abuja, Nigeria. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who were killed and injured.
The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the bombing of the United Nations building in Abuja, Nigeria, on 26 August 2011, causing numerous deaths and injuries. They expressed their deep sympathy and condolences to the victims of this heinous crime and to their families, to the people and Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to the UN Secretary-General and other United Nations colleagues.
As Boko Haram, the deadly terrorists group continues to hold Nigerians captive in their fatherland in the face of the seeming helplessness of the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan-led Government, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon who will not take this challenge lying down has been unsparing in his condemnation of this morning’s attack on the United Nations building in Abuja, in which a number of people have been killed or wounded, and said he would dispatch top officials to the Nigerian capital to respond to the emergency.
