Poole security boss prosecuted for deception and providing unlicensed security guards

On Friday 23 October, John Westwood, a Poole security boss was prosecuted at Poole Magistrates' Court for supplying an unlicensed door supervisor to a ‘pop-up bar' at an event at Bournemouth's The Square on 05 August 2019.

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) prosecuted both John Westwood and his business, One 2 One Security Ltd, for deception and for deploying an unlicensed door supervisor. This prosecution is the culmination of the investigation of John Westwood, One 2 One Security Ltd and the unlicensed door supervisor, Lloyd Biggs who worked for him on that night.

It wasn’t an easy decision as to whether, in the current climate, to attend the protest and counter-protests on Saturday for reasons of which we are all aware. I’d relied on live feeds and social media footage to view events during previous Black Lives Matter protests

During the first protest which took place on a Wednesday, I witnessed via social media, two officers being chased by a mob along Bridge Street and then a handful of officers retreating down Whitehall. Saturday saw more peaceful protesters leave before the remnants threw missiles at officers outside Downing Street which prompted the mounted police charge during which an officer was hospitalised.

EUCJ rejects legal appeal against Tobacco Products Directive

A leading trade association has criticised the decision to reject its legal claim against the EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD), calling it “disappointing and curious”.

The International Tax Stamp Association’s (ITSA) legal action against the TPD was thrown out at the appeal stage by the EU Court of Justice (EUCJ) on grounds of inadmissibility, without any consideration of the merits of the claim.

ITSA first launched a legal challenge at the EUCJ in 2018, claiming that the TPD implementing regulations on traceability and security features do not conform to the World Health Organisation (WHO) FCTC Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products.
