In response to the news that PF Chang’s restaurants has named 33 of its restaurants that were compromised by bank card fraudsters this year, Mark James, security specialist at ESET says
“The breach apparently happened sometime between October 2013 and June 2014 so at least they have not taken too long to notify its user base. The data stolen was card numbers, names and expiry dates, and this data could be used along with other easy to find data about you on the web to steal your identity.
What is particularly interesting about this case is the fact that the company stated that ‘it will pay for identity protection services for customers exposed by the breach’. We really need much stronger rules and regulations regarding the storage of any financial data and very heavy fines for any company not found to be doing their very best to protect it.”
