CEA, the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission, will exhibit its innovative CBRN-E prevention solutions – for dealing with chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear risks, as well as explosives-related threats – at TRANSEC, the UK’s trade show of reference for the transport-security sector. TRANSEC will be held at Olympia, in London, from 13 to 14 November 2013.
CEA is a leading R&D body in the energy, defence, security and high-tech sectors and has developed a range of technologies designed for use in transport security.
Laurent Olmedo, CEA’s Global Security Research Programme Manager, explains, “We have scientific expertise in the management of risks and threats – something that is of great benefit to the authorities. The completion of a significant number of R&D projects has led to numerous technology transfers, either by providing technology-licence agreements to companies, or by founding start-ups.”
CEA will showcase three innovative solutions in CBRN-E prevention on its stand (F32) at the TRANSEC trade show, to be held in mid-November of this year at the Olympia exhibition centre, in central London. The first technology is T-REXâ, an innovative detector of explosive-vapour traces. This detector constitutes a major breakthrough as conventional instruments are mostly dedicated to the detection of explosive particles.
Secondly, CEA will present innovative solutions for first responders faced with a biological threat. Detection is operated thanks to CEA’s KDTB Goldâ solution, a biological immunoassay (or biochemical test) suitable for the in-the-field detection of pathogens. The decontamination of infrastructures is conducted with a separate solution, BIOGEL-Sysâ. Both solutions, which have been licensed to NBC-Sys, a French CBRN/defence specialist, are intended for first-aid organisations and fire services, and are already in use in several countries.
Finally, CEA will showcase DMS, a global-software solution that merges, in real time, data from heterogeneous systems such as video-tracking systems and multiple-technologies explosive-detection systems. This software suite is based on a central database that records, in real time, three-dimensional data and events.
The DMS software solution also features an advanced security-operator user interface, allowing for quick operator reaction in case of an explosive-detection alert. Alerts are generated according to rules that are configured in a rules engine. It is CEA that defines the concept of operations, the algorithms for the rules engine, and the standard protocol for the connection of sub-systems to DMS. The DMS software product has been built using the Target Lockerâ solution from software company Egidium Technologies. Other solutions such as Event Monitorâ, Smart Shieldâ and Swift Catchâ are already available on the market.
