The Tried & Tested 3 Step System to Mastering Safe Travel
We are all aware of the terrible headline tragedies that have affected travellers recently including the attacks in Brussels and Istanbul. However, it’s not only the incidents that attract worldwide headlines that can cause travellers to fear for their safety. Assault, robbery and sexual assaults are all issues that many travellers face due to a lack of understanding and planning.
It’s not possible to eliminate risk but it is possible to identify, assess and plan to reduce risk and follow 3 Step System for mastering safe travel. The system is flexible and allows travellers to use it before they travel and adapt as the situation changes throughout their journey.
The first step is to map out the day ahead using either pictures or a simple list. Breaking the day down allows you to concentrate on each element, so for example below we have 3 elements
- catch a train to travel to the airport and fly to Hong Kong
- Arrive at Hotel
- Go out for dinner with business colleagues
The second step is to identify, evaluate and plan to overcome the risks at each stage so for example on arrival at the airport to get airside as soon as possible and not meet colleagues at the check in area or public coffee shops.
The third step in the system is to think about how you will move or transition from one element of the day to another. So for example when you arrive at the airport will you be greeted and depart straight for the hotel or be wandering around looking for transport.
Many businesses are now seeking advice and training for their staff on how they can ensure that their travel is as safe as possible and give their employees the understanding and tools to help adapt their travel plans and scenarios as things around them change.
