Police officers from Brent have continued to liaise with local residents and businesses as work continues to make safe an unexploded WWII bomb in Wembley, Vigilance can report.
Road closures remain in place and around 300 addresses have been evacuated as a precaution.
Police were originally called at 14:57hrs on Thursday, 21 May to a building site on Empire Way, Wembley to reports of the unexploded device. The 50kg bomb was discovered by builders working at the location.
A 400m cordon was immediately put in place around the site. Army disposal experts have been working through the night to stabilise and defuse the bomb and this work is currently ongoing.
The MPS and our partners continue to work to ensure disruption for local people is kept to a minimum.
Chief Superintendent Mick Gallagher, for Brent, said: “We are working with the disposal experts and partner agencies to keep disruption to local residents and businesses to an absolute minimum, whilst ensuring the safety of everyone in the surrounding area. Our officers have been keeping those affected informed of any developments and continue to work with Brent Council to identify any vulnerable residents who need any additional assistance.
CS Gallagher added: "As soon as the device has been made safe by our colleagues in the Army we will inform everyone that they can return safely to their homes. We appreciate the patience of those affected and ask them to bear with us while the remainder of this operation is completed."
