Niger Delta Watch

Nigeria used to be a foremost nation pointing the light for other African nations to follow, but today like the eagle which was brought down from the sky by an ant gnawing at her wings, corruption has brought down Nigeria from her Olympian and soaring height, such that in the comity of nations, smaller African nations including those which gained independence recently are the ones now speaking for the continent.

The soul of Nigeria died the day, Sunday 15th January, 1956 when oil was discovered at Otuabagi and Otuogadi in Oloibiri in present day Bayelsa State by Shell Darcy. That day it was too that the spirit of enterprise and competitiveness died, and following afterwards Nigeria lost her heart and senses of rightness/justness and wrongness including of course, universal altruism. Hence what passes for Nigeria today is the relic of her old self walking with her head and legs up.

Thus, in conceiving Nigeria Watch International (NWI) we are embarrassed by the current stagnation to regression in every facet of that country and disappointed at Nigeria’s current zero image at international level.

The aims of NWI therefore, are:

  • To expose all levels of corruption in Nigeria, especially official corruption
  • To re-orientate the psyche of all Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora
  • And usher in the Nigerian renaissance.

The task ahead is not going to be easy, but with the collective efforts of all Nigerians at home and abroad, all friends and well-wishers of Nigeria across the globe joining us in this crusade by reporting all sharp practices in that country including all their unpleasant experiences in the course of doing business, or just visiting Nigeria for other enterprises, we are well able to uproot the evil tree in the House of Nigeria.

Above all, with God on our side we are able to root out corruption and general insecurity in the erstwhile giant of Africa, make her a paradise of glory and a beautiful bride for foreign investors and tourists once more.

We therefore, call on all Nigerians, friends and well wishers of Nigeria to send us information-documents-facts and figures detailing all forms of corruption in that country. Although steeped in stupendous corruption, the current Government may not be willing to take action against established corrupt cases or be favourably and genuinely interested in fighting corruption as the saying goes, “He who lives in a glass house should not throw stones,” we are prepared to press for prosecution of all cases relating to corruption in any form in Nigeria by enlisting world leaders and relevant international bodies such as the United Nations and Transparency International.

According to recent information on Nigeria courtesy of the National Bureau of Statistics, more than 100 million Nigerians live on less than $1.00 a day. Oil - rich Nigeria, and indeed, Africa with all its superabundant natural and manpower resources has no business being poor.

Although our focus at this time primarily is Nigeria, we should welcome information on corruption from other African countries on other African corrupt rulers till such a time when the continental version of NWI - Africa Watch International takes off fully.

We should like to add that the management of Nigeria Watch International does not take responsibility for any publication hereon and their aftermath.

Ridding Nigeria, indeed Africa of corruption is a task that must be done! Don’t just talk about it, report it and take action!

President Goodluck

Jonathan: Never man possesses such an immense power, but does not know what to do with it. Pity! Pity! Until this man realises he’s not just the President of Nigeria, but the leader of all persons of African ancestry, pity, pity then.

With respect to the security situation in Nigeria we have for the umpteenth time written editorials suggesting to Government as to what to do. Before the President of Nigeria Goodluck Ebele Jonathan came out belatedly to say Boko Haram had infiltrated his Government, we had warned him in all our editorials that the real Boko Haram are not the band of miscreants carrying bombs, but the  promoters of the vested interest of the rotten Oligarchic class of Northern Nigeria, amongst whom are Generals, serving and retired; the traditional rulers; past Heads of State from the North; civil servants; diplomats, serving and retired; business men and women, students;  professionals;  politicians who failed in the last elections, both national and at States levels: religious leaders; Governors; Senators and Legislators; ministers, etc,  etc. So for Jonathan to say Boko Haram had infiltrated his Government is to expose his crass naivety and a lack of understanding of the complexity of the Nigerian polity. In fact, Boko Haram began since 1809 with the founding of the Sokoto Caliphate by Uthman Dan Fodio.

The presence of Boko Haram in Nigerian polity is the reason for Northern domination of the Nigerian polity, the military, the para-military, the civil service, the police, sensitive positions, etc, etc. The entire Nigerian security outfits are Boko Haram, hence the armed forces and the police are not serious in tackling the Boko Haram menace. Boko Haram has been very active in Nigeria since the colonial period. Boko Haram was the reason Britain handed power to the North to occupy until they come back; Boko Haram caused the pogrom of the 60s which led to the civil war; the various censuses conducted in Nigeria have been Boko Haram censuses, hence the  North, an arid zone, have more figures allotted to it than the South where people live in clustered settlements compared to the North which live in scattered settlements; Boko Haram led to the partitioning of Nigeria in form of States and Local Government Areas not minding their viability; Boko Haram was the reason for the various coups in Nigeria. They had come in form of Almajiris, Maitasine riots, Zango –Kataf, various killings of Igbos and young Nigerians sent to the North by their fatherland to participate in the National Youth Service Scheme, but taken home dead to their parents from the North; Boko Haram has been the reason for the various religious riots in the North including the Plateau/Jos one which has merely subsided to start very soon.

Boko Haram was the reason Mr Ibrahim Babangida smuggled Nigeria into joining the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation without consulting anyone, not even his then second-in- command Chief of General Staff Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe.  And Nigeria has been a registered member since 1986. Boko Haram was the reason Umaru Yar’Adua, Nigeria’s former President was taken to Saudi Arabia for treatment with his bills reportedly paid by the Saudi monarch. Saudi Arabia is an Oil-rich  nation like Nigeria!

Boko Haram is the reason why Nigerian rulers of Northern extraction are forming new alliances with the Arab world to the disregard of the circular nature of Nigeria as a polity. Mark my word, the next stage will be to register Nigeria in the League of Arab nations any time they grab power again. And the Igbos of Nigeria will be stupid as not to start putting appropriate machinery in place to rule Nigeria after Jonathan. The North certainly cannot dream of ruling Nigeria after Jonathan in the guise of saying power now is between the South and the North, after all they had  held power for upward of forty years out of Nigeria’s 51 years as a nation! If anyone from the North respects justice and wants peace, they should keep quiet until the Igbos of Nigeria have ruled that country like anyone else, before we can at the table of brotherhood decide on the next agenda and the way forward.  Wherever our Igbo brothers and sisters are they should get ready to enter Aso Rock after Jonathan. And my advice to them ahead of time is that they MUST bury their differences and present a credible person acceptable to all Nigerians!

In fact, Boko Haram is the reason why the website of the Ministry of External Affairs is currently linked to the website of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation, Boko Haram is the reason why Nigerians have not been able to hold National Conference, hence the Nigeria we have now is MADE IN BRITAIN NIGERIA, instead of having a MADE IN NIGERIA, NIGERIA.  Boko Haram was the reason why Kenule Saro Wiwa was killed to satisfy the Oligarchic bunch, etc, etc.

***Because we have a very comprehensive editorial coming up shortly, we shall not go further than this at this time.

In the main time, if Mr Jonathan loves himself he MUST without further delay sack all the services chiefs and reshuffle his Cabinet and get himself new aides.
