“We couldn’t agree more with Mr. Hemming’s assessment of the current situation with Microsoft. The issue of data sovereignty and privacy is growing. The location of the data center is irrelevant - the key criteria is the jurisdiction of the owner of the data center.
US firms are setting up global data centres to build local trust, however, they are still subject to US law. Any US company with a global infrastructure may find themselves in the same position that Microsoft has experienced in Ireland and will have to surrender the information. The law goes further, in that the US authorities are under no obligation to even inform the foreign jurisdiction of the information extraction.
These challenges are the driving force behind the development of CloudMask. We have developed a breakthrough innovation that substitutes sensitive information with meaningless tokens, thereby anonymising the information and enabling secure use of global cloud services.
The potential of cloud services for competitive advantage is enormous. Let’s focus on protecting the data and not allow data privacy laws and sovereignty to impact GDP.”
About CloudMask
Winner of the Canadian Innovation Commercialisation Programme (CICP), CloudMask protects data in the cloud and on premise, even in the event of a total breach. CloudMask’s solution is based on a ‘zero trust model’ and works on the premise that no one can be trusted with data - including cloud administrators, governments, employees and even company IT administrators. CloudMask can track, protect and control access of data throughout its lifecycle - from creation, in transit, storage and processing to the point of consumption - enabling businesses to meet data residency and privacy regulations. Eliminating the need for special encryption gateways or VPNs simplifies the deployment process and achieves zero deployment cost, minimising time to implement.
