The preacherman will tell us to “repair” and “repent”, but against the backdrop of the Asia Pacific reality, Asia Business Continuity Forum 2011 holds the contrary, albeit, at business and strategic thinking level! It is therefore, a truism to say that countries in Asia Pacific are more prone to natural disasters, events like riots and technical glitches than those in other parts of the world. It is reported that people in the Asia-Pacific region are four times more likely to be affected by natural disasters than those in Africa and 25 times more likely than those in Europe or North America.

Disaster prone countries should consider having business continuity strategies within broader development frameworks and multisectoral budgetary processes that address economic inequities and social and environmental imbalances.

The recent tragedy that struck Japan for instance has resulted in many organizations taking a step back to rethink their measures in having an effective disaster recovery plan. To shed some light on the bleak situation, JFPS Group will be organizing the Asia Business Continuity Forum 2011 on the 20th until the 21st of September in Hong Kong with the theme “Don’t Repair and Repent, instead, Prepare and Prevent”.

The key highlights include gaining senior management commitment through justification of ROI on business continuity, realizing how the organizational structure can play a key role in mitigating risk to increase resilience, creating an effective Business Impact Analysis (BIA) to assist in the conception and maintenance of the Business Continuity Planning, identifying the challenges that social media brings to the business continuity function and more.

According to Project Manager, Joshini John, “Asia Business Continuity 2011 will not only highlight the latest trends and expectations of Business Continuity Plan (BCP), but will also discuss challenges faced by BCP personnel in simulating the program and maintaining the system. This conference includes interactive sessions such as Panel Discussions, Roundtable Brainstorming and Industry Case Studies to tackle the crisis communication management and dealing with social media. It will also serve as a networking platform to exchange ideas.”
