March will see the only event in the whole of Europe dedicated to producers and users of criminological equipment and scientists and researchers involved in laboratory criminology, Vigilance can now report. The First CrimeLab International Criminological Techniques Fair will be held in Poland on 28-30 March 2012 at the MT Polska Centre at ul. Marsa 56c in Warsaw.
According to a source at CrimeLab, the organizers of the earth-shaking event the purpose of the CrimeLab International Criminological Techniques Fair is to provide ideal conditions for presenting the latest achievements in criminological techniques, as well as an opportunity for establishing business contacts and sharing knowledge and experience.
The source said for the past 14 years, representatives of companies and institutions involved in developing the most effective criminological techniques have been able to meet potential customers at the EuroLab International Measurement Techniques and Analysis Fair.
“For several years, interest in conferences and workshops for experts in criminology has grown steadily, and more and more frequently, visitors to EuroLab have asked exhibitors about specialist equipment for criminological laboratory applications. So we decided to organise the CrimeLab International Criminological Techniques Fair to present the latest technical solutions – for the first time in Poland, and for the first time in the whole of Europe,” says Urszula Potęga, the organiser of the EuroLab and CrimeLab fairs.
“Events such as the EuroLab and CrimeLab fairs with their side events are extremely valuable to representatives of various circles involved in the process of discovering and pursuing criminals, since they facilitate the development of universal standards applicable in investigating crime. The acceptance of such uniform standards by EU countries will make it possible in the future to establish a European Judicial Sciences Area which will improve the effectiveness of penal proceedings," says Subinspector Paweł Rybicki of the Central Criminological Laboratory.
Why a CrimeLab Fair?
The CrimeLab International Criminological Techniques Fair is a specialist industry event at which producers and distributors of apparatus, equipment and instruments used in investigating the scene of a crime and in documenting, registering, securing and displaying material evidence can present their offers. In addition, the CrimeLab fair also provides an excellent opportunity to present the latest IT systems used in identification and in managing the circulation of material evidence.
Those offers are mainly addressed to representatives of institutions involved in criminology, including customs, criminological, government and private laboratories, research and development institutions and outlets, representatives of judicial medical institutions, and other institutions such as the European Police Bureau, Interpol, the European Agency for Managing Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union, and the European Police Academy. Toxologists, geologists and surveyors, and criminological technicians – investigators, customs officers, communications officers accredited by embassies on the territory of the Republic of Poland and police officers from the criminal division of the Central Bureau of Investigation - can also familiarise themselves with the latest criminological techniques. Exhibitors’ offers are sure to attract the interest of vehicle experts, prosecutors, judges, attorneys, court and private experts, detective agencies, and students of criminology.
Involvement of governmental, scientific and research institutions
The Honorary Patrons of the first edition of the CrimeLab International Criminological Techniques Fair are the Ministry of Justice, and Adam Rapacki, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Main Patron of the CrimeLab fair is the Central Criminological Police Laboratory. The organiser of the CrimeLab fair is also cooperating on the substance of the event with Instytutem Ekspertyz Sądowych im. prof. dra Jana Sehna, the Chief Command of the Military Gendarmerie, the National School of Judiciary and Prosecution, the Polish Criminological Association, and the Police Academy in Szczecin.
“The support of governmental, research and scientific institutions has allowed us to create a very interesting programme for the fair. It will include many additional events promoting scientific achievements, modern technologies and research methods used in criminology. The conferences and seminars will be international, with presenters from Poland and abroad,” says Piotr Skoneczka, head of the CrimeLab and EuroLab projects.
