Military welfare charity, Blesma – The Limbless Veterans is looking for volunteers to help out at the Cheltenham Half Marathon on Sunday 7 September in Cheltenham.
This year, with the kind support of the GE Veterans Network, Blesma will have over 100 runners taking part in the Cheltenham Half Marathon on behalf of our injured veterans, and urgently need volunteers to help serve refreshments, and man cheer points along the route.
Blesma Member, Chris Jones, 66, of Stroud says: “The last time I volunteered it cost me my right leg, but that was 48 years ago and my luck may have changed! If anyone would like to join me for a couple of hours on the 7th, Blesma would love to hear from you!”
Laura Hyde, Fundraising Events Manager at Blesma says: “Our Members are a true inspiration and demonstrate to us all just what can be achieved. We couldn’t continue our work without community support, and the support of organisations such as the GE Veterans Network, so please consider joining us. All of our wonderful volunteers will receive a t-shirt and certificate of thanks.”
She added: “We also still have some places for people to take part in the half marathon. There’s no entry fee and no minimum sponsorship required – just raise as much as you can to support our injured veterans!”
Blesma – The Limbless Veterans is the national charity for all limbless service men and women, their widows and dependants. It was formed in the years following the First World War and became a national charity in 1932.
